FOUNDER'S MESSAGE
Having lost a parent to suicide at a young age, I spent more than 20 years battling alcohol addiction, depression and anxiety disorder. Now 15 years in recovery, I am passionately committed to bringing the message of hope, recovery and mental health and wellness to our urban and inner-city communities.
In addition to being the Founder of UMHA, I am also a certified health and wellness coach with the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and author of the published book The Window of Grace: Living in Recovery through Christian Faith. I sit on the board with Children’s Futures; am a former Board Vice President with The Center for Family, Community, and Social Justice; and a former board director with the National Alliance on Mental Illness of Mercer County, where I am a certified facilitator for the nationally known program, Family to Family. I am also a certified instructor for the national training program Mental Health First Aid and a member of the vestry with Trinity Episcopal Cathedral Trenton. I am also honored to be a graduate of Regent University with a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies and Psychology. As an advocate with lived experience, I present and facilitate on mental health, addiction & recovery and wellness & self-care and have received numerous awards for my nonprofit and volunteer work.
As Executive Director and Founder of the Urban Mental Health Alliance, I am proud of the work we do to bring awareness, knowledge and empowerment to our urban communities. In four short years, UMHA has grown from a personal vision to a committed, engaged grassroots organization, promoting and teaching mental health and wellness, and addiction and mental illness recovery. I invite you to join us in the groundbreaking work we do everyday to empower our urban individuals and families with mental health knowledge and awareness. Please consider being a volunteer, donor or sponsor. At UMHA, we believe... You never give up hope because with UMHA you are never alone.
Should you have questions, our door is always open. Please contact me directly at [email protected]. Wishing you good mental health and sound peace of mind.
