The Urban Mental Health Alliance (UMHA) is a grassroots, community-based New Jersey nonprofit that advocates for the mental health and wellness of urban families and communities. Our mission is to empower individuals and families in urban communities with addiction and mental health awareness and recovery knowledge through advocacy, education, hope and community support.
While many of our communities have access to clinical services that address addiction and mental illness crisis and recovery, there is still a great need for programs and services that provide education and information in support of and advocacy for prevention, wellness and self-care specific to the challenges of urban mental health. Without this knowledge and understanding, active addiction and mental illnesses continue to affect families from generation to generation, thereby impacting communities in culturally, socially and economically devastating ways. At the Urban Mental Health Alliance, our first priority is always to serve those that need this information the most - the mothers and fathers, grandparents, sisters and brothers, husbands and wives and sons and daughters who struggle to care and provide for themselves and loved ones with mental health challenges.
UMHA is proud of the work that we do every day to empower our communities with mental health awareness, knowledge and resources. Our programs and events include:
Healthy Minds Matter Signature Workshop Series
Healthy Minds Matter is a five-part workshop series that helps individuals and families understand mental health and addiction. This 90-minute workshop series runs once a week for five weeks and topics include:
1. Healthy Minds in Our Communities
2. Understanding Addiction
3. Handling Everyday Stress
4. Keeping a Positive Frame of Mind
5. Getting Help When You Need It
If you or someone you love needs mental health information and resources, please contact us at 609-610-7603 or [email protected].
UMHA is always looking for volunteers. If you would like to work with us on events, program-building or marketing and social media, please contact Kimme Carlos at 609-610-7603 or [email protected].
